How Do We Do It?

Unlike our competitors, we are not happy with the product available on the open market. If we expect to produce the finest product, we have to control each step of the entire process. To do so, we created Bar Technologies, with the most advanced cold finishing bar line in our industry.

  • Unique in our industry, we order hot rolled bars, to our specifications and exacting tolerances, direct from the producing mills.
  • We continuously in-line process steel. Starting with the raw bundle in the cradle. your job speciifications are entered into our IHCMS (Industrial Hard Chrome Manufacturing System) dictating the exact process through pre-straightening, turning, finish straightening and certerless grinding.
  • Computerization – every step of the way – gives us optimum dimensional control for the roundest, straightest bars, most consistent in the industry.
  • The IHCMS (Industrial Hard Chrome Manufacturing System), an array of advanced electronic sensors give us real-time reporting of pressures, temperatures, fluid levels, voltages, amps, RPM, product advance and positioning, and product clamping dimensions on every bar at every step in the process, and full material traceability throughout the process.
  • We provide full size ranges,English and Metric, .787 inches (20mm) to 6 inches(150mm)

Manufacturing

Initial Operation

This is where the IHCMS(Industrial Hard Chrome Manufacturing System) begins control of our entire system and lets us maximize velocity of the product through the entire operation. We interconnect all the finishing operations by means of a fully automatic, in-line, material transfer-staging system, eliminating the usual double-handling. We are committed not only to a competitively priced product, but to a “perfect-as-possible” product in every step of straightening, precision turning, grinding and special finishing.


Pre-Straightening

‘Pre’  or ‘rough’  straightening serves a critical process. Even though the requirements we place on our supplying mills are in excess of the “published” standards, that product is not good enough for us. Dimensional accuracy, straightness and roundness are critical to producing the best product, and this process is a critical first step to ensuring the best results. 


Chamfer

Chamfering is cutting a slight angle to the lead end of each bar for smooth entry into the collet of the centerless turner. It ensures bar roundness through this critical process.  This step although early in the production process is important for customers who operate bar-feed cut-off equipment in subsequent processing.  

Turning

Pre-straightened bars pass through a precision centerless turning head that rotates at high speeds, removing surface imperfections and leaving bars uniformly round within very close tolerances.  A laser constantly measures diameter.  its feedback instantly adjusts the cutting head to insure consistent size control.  Information on the way each steel chemistry reacts to each step is added to the computer database and stored so it can be used to process future orders efficiently.  Consistency in turning sets up the rest of the process.

Finish Straightening

The IHCMS controls our finish straightening process by real-time computer management of roll speed and pressure.  Another post-straightening laser captures the bar diameter. That data is then compared to the data gathered in the turning process so the turning process can compensate for the straightening response where and  if it is needed.  

Because we constantly monitor for straightness and roundness we can produce a consistently good bar.  Then we take an additional step and validate straightness with rotating bars under a dial indicator; and validate roundness with a special multi-point gauge. The multi-point gauge measures roundness that two-point micrometers can’t.

Centerless Grinding

Centerless grinding is controlled within the IHCMS with multiple lasers that are fully integrated into the centerless grinders. An electronic record of each  bar and all its diametrical measurements is retained in the IHCMS.  We use real-time laser data to make adjustments to the grinder based on the job parameters, and IHCMS allows us to quickly and perfectly replicate your order at any time.
